Life Insurance FAQ
The short answer: It's a small whole life policy — usually $2,000 to $25,000 — built for one job: covering funeral costs, medical bills, and loose ends so your family isn't left passing the hat. Premiums are locked in for life, and the coverage lasts your whole life.
Final expense is whole life insurance, which means two things that matter: the premium you start with is the premium you keep — it never goes up — and the policy can't expire on you as long as premiums are paid. It's the opposite of term insurance, which ends after 10, 20, or 30 years — right when you're most likely to need this kind of coverage.
This is where final expense shines. Guaranteed-issue options ask no health questions at all — if you're in the eligible age range (typically 45 to 85), you're in. Simplified-issue options ask a few health questions and usually cost less per dollar of coverage. Either way, there's no medical exam. The carrier makes the final call, but these products exist specifically for people who can't qualify for traditional coverage.
