Why I Do This Work

In 2018 I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. In 2021, COVID put me in the hospital for three months — six weeks of that in a coma — and left me with long COVID afterward. By May of 2024 my kidneys had failed completely and I was on dialysis. In June of that year, I received a kidney transplant.

I tell you that because if you've ever been turned down for life insurance, or you've held off applying because of your own health history, I know exactly where you're sitting. Guaranteed issue whole life insurance doesn't ask about any of that. If you're in the eligible age range, you're approved — no exam, no health questionnaire, no second-guessing after the fact. And if you can answer a few health questions, simplified issue plans open up even more options.

Three Ways to Qualify — Know Where You Stand

Not every plan asks the same questions. Here's the honest breakdown, simplest first:

Guaranteed issue

No health questions at all

No questionnaire, no exam, no medical records. If you're in the eligible age range, you're approved — period. The trade-off: a graded benefit in the first two years and higher premiums than fully underwritten coverage.

On this page: United Home Life True GIWL, Corebridge GIWL.

Simplified issue

A few health questions, no exam

The middle ground between guaranteed issue and regular insurance. You answer a short set of health questions — no exam, no bloodwork — and it's usually easier to get than a regular life insurance policy. Healthier answers can mean better rates and stronger benefits.

On this page: Mutual of Omaha Living Promise, American Amicable Dignity, Transamerica FE Express, Transamerica Immediate Solution, Foresters PlanRight.

Regular life insurance

Full underwriting: detailed health questions and medical records. The lowest rates for healthy applicants — but the highest bar to clear, which is why it's our last resort. We start with the no-exam plans above; fully underwritten only comes up if those can't get you covered. None of the plans we offer require a paramedical exam. Not quoted on this page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a medical exam or health questions?

None of the plans on this page require a medical exam. The two guaranteed-issue plans ask no health questions at all. The simplified-issue plans ask a short set of health questions — that's the only difference, and it's clearly marked on every quote.

What's the difference between guaranteed issue and simplified issue?

Guaranteed issue means approval is guaranteed within the age range — no questions asked. Simplified issue sits between guaranteed issue and regular insurance: a few health questions, no exam, and usually easier to get than a regular policy. If you can answer the questions, simplified issue often buys more coverage per dollar.

What's the graded death benefit?

Most of these plans limit the payout if death occurs from natural causes in the first two policy years — typically a refund of premiums paid plus interest, or a percentage of the face amount — while accidental death pays the full amount from day one. After the graded period, the full face amount is paid for any cause. Each plan's card notes its own graded terms.

What ages and coverage amounts are available?

It depends on the plan: United Home Life covers ages 45–75, Mutual of Omaha covers ages 45–85, Corebridge covers ages 50–80, American Amicable covers ages 50–85, Transamerica covers ages 45–85, and Foresters covers ages 50–85. Coverage ranges from $2,000 to $50,000 depending on the plan — plans you're outside of are marked unavailable when you compare.

Does a quote here mean I'm approved?

No. A quote is an estimate of the premium — the carrier makes the final decision at application. Guaranteed-issue plans do guarantee acceptance within their age range; simplified-issue plans depend on your answers to the health questions. I'll walk you through exactly where you stand before anything is submitted.

Why compare eleven plans instead of just picking one?

Rates for the same age, sex, and coverage amount can differ meaningfully between plans — and the right plan depends on your health picture too. Comparing side by side means you're not stuck with whichever company happens to answer the phone first.
